Legendary and veteran actor Praveer Mitra passed away. He was under treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in the capital in a critical condition. He died on Sunday (January 5) around 10:30 pm.

Actor Misha Saudagar confirmed his death. Posting on his verified ID on Facebook, he wrote, 'Prabir Mitra Dada aThere is no more. He passed away some time ago. May God forgive him.'
Prabir Mitra's daughter-in-law Sonia Islam told the media that Prabir Mitra's body will be kept at Dhanmondi's residence in a freezer car after bathing at night. The first funeral will be held at FDC tomorrow after Zohar prayers. After the second Janaza at Channel I, burial will be done at Azimpur Cemetery.
81-year-old Prabir Mitra was hospitalized for 13 days with several physical complications. He was admitted to a private hospital in the capital on December 22 due to several illnesses including lack of oxygen in the body. Gradually his physical condition deteriorated.
Prabir Mitra was born on August 18, 1943 in Chandina Upazila of Comilla. His full name is Praveer Kumar Mitra. Growing up in old Dhaka, Praveer Mitra was involved in theater from his school days. In his school life, he started his journey by acting in Rabindranath Tagore's play 'Dakghar'.
In 1969, Prabir Mitra entered the film industry with the late H Akbar's 'Jalchhabi'. In 1982, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the film 'Bada Bhalo Lok Chila'. In 2018, he was awarded the National Film Award in the Lifetime Achievement category.
