Brazil and Argentina won their first matches in the final stage of the South American U-20 Championship. Argentina beat Chile 2-1 at the Olimpico Stadium in Caracas, Venezuela, while Brazil beat Uruguay 1-0 at the Brigido Stadium in the same city.
Brazil played the last 33 minutes of the match with 10 men. In the 57th minute, Brazil left back Arthur Dias was sent off after a foul on Uruguayan right winger Alejandro Severo. The first goal of the match came in the 74th minute, when forward Pedro Biparit scored from a counterattack to give Brazil the lead.
Argentina
Both Argentina's goals came in the first half of the match. Argentina took the lead in the 35th minute through winger Ian Subiabre's goal. The River Plate player played for the Chile Under-17 team in 2022. His ancestors were Chilean and father Martin was also known as "Chili" in football. Not wanting to lose Subiabrae, he was included in the Under-20 squad. Seven minutes later, River Plate forward Agustin Ruberto scored another goal, giving Argentina a 2–0 lead at the break. Chilean striker Juan Russell scored a goal in the 61st minute of the second half.
There is no final or third place match in this youth Copa America. The top team in this six-team league stage will be the champion. Colombia beat Paraguay 4-0 in Caracas to go top with 3 points from 1 match. Argentina are in second place with equal points from equal matches, also behind Colombia (+4) on goal difference, Argentina (+1). Brazil is in third, with 3 points in 1 match (+1) goal difference.
