Bangladesh's dominant win: Tigers thrash West Indies by 179 runs to win series
Bangladesh cricket team clinched the three-match ODI series by defeating West Indies by a huge margin of 179 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This victory is the second biggest win in terms of runs in Bangladesh's ODI history. The Tigers' previous biggest win was a 183-run win against Ireland in Sylhet in 2023.
Bangladesh started the series with a win in the first match but lost the second match in a super over. As a result, the third and final match became an unwritten final. In such a crucial match, the Tigers put in a great performance with both bat and ball to secure the series win.
Saif-Soumya storm in batting
Tiger captain Mehedi Hasan Miraj won the toss and elected to bat first. Saif Hasan and Soumya Sarkar showed their dominance from the start in the opening pair. The two put on a brilliant partnership of 176 runs. Saif played a brilliant innings of 80 runs off 72 balls, while Soumya stopped just 9 runs short of a century by scoring 91 runs off 86 balls. However, Bangladesh could not cross the 300-run mark due to the failure of the middle-order batters. Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 44 and Towhid Hridoy scored 28 runs. The hosts made a challenging total of 296 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Akil Hossain took the highest wicket for the West Indies with 4 wickets.
Caribbean batting collapses under spinners' whirlwind
Chasing a target of 297 runs, West Indies surrendered helplessly to Bangladesh spinners from the start. The Caribbeans were in a state of disaster after losing 4 wickets before the team's 50 runs in a whirlwind of Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain. Alik Athanase 15, Brandon King 18, Shai Hope 4 and Akeem August returned to the dressing room before opening the run book. After that, the visiting team could not turn around. West Indies were bundled out for 117 runs in just 30.1 overs after losing wickets at regular intervals. Alik Hossain top-scored with 27 runs for the team.
For Bangladesh, Nasum and Rishad took 3 wickets each. Mehedi Miraj and Tanvir Islam took 2 wickets each.
The significance of winning the series
With this victory, Bangladesh proved their unstoppable strength at home. With the batting consistency of Saif-Soumya and the excellent bowling of the spinners, the series win against the West Indies is another milestone for Bangladesh cricket. This victory will further boost the confidence of the Tigers and make the team stronger for future series.
