Good news about police verification of passport
Passport
Citizens used to face a lot of hassles due to police verification while availing various services including passport or job. In many cases there were also allegations of bribes being sought from citizens to provide certain services.
The need to change this situation was recently discussed in the Advisory Council meeting. In view of this, the security service department of the Ministry of Home Affairs has started activities on the matter.
Public Administration Reform Commission chief and former secretary Abdul Mueed Chowdhury said, "Getting a passport is a citizen's right, so why is police verification necessary?" Passports are available through the post office only upon application in England. Every citizen has the right to a passport.”
He also mentioned that it is very important to stop harassment and corruption in the name of police verification. Checking the political identity of the candidate or his family is highly absurd. Currently the verification process has become a major problem, which should be prevented. The commission also recommends that police verification should no longer be made mandatory for employment or other services.
According to the sources of the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the process of issuing 16,000 passports across the country is pending pending police reports. There is a long wait for the report, which becomes very inconvenient for citizens who need urgent passports due to illness.
