Breathtaking final gives Barisal second consecutive title, Chittagong is runners-up

Barisal

After a thrilling contest, Chittagong Kings, who returned to the BPL after 12 years, stunningly missed out on the title due to an imaginary veggie love affair. Their clash with Barisal in this final match held at Mirpur Sher Bangla Cricket Stadium on Friday (February 7) was breathtaking. In the end, Barisal won the title for the second time after losing by 3 wickets.**

Barisal captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss in the first half of this thrilling match and decided to send Chittagong into bat first. Two openers Parvez Hussain Imon and Khawaja Nafir form an impressive opening pair. Aggressive batting from them showed Chittagong with absolute vulnerability, which made the contest more enjoyable.

Amassing a huge score, Chittagong managed to post 194 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs. Khawaja Nafi was dismissed for 66, but Parvez Imon laid the foundation for the team's score with an unbeaten 78 off 49 balls. Graham Clarke also made a great contribution with 44 off 23 balls.

Batting on a target of 196 runs, captain Tamim Iqbal and Tawhid Hriday gave Barisal a great start. They put on a partnership of 76 runs for the first wicket. Tamim notably made a 24-ball fifty, but was dismissed for 54 off 29 balls.

After Tamim's departure, Chittagong picked up two quick wickets to create tension in the match. Dawood Malan departed with a quick run and Hridoy was dismissed for 32 off 28 balls. This increased the pressure for Barisal, but Mushfiqur Rahim and Kyle Myers came in to handle the situation. These two batsmen tried to improve the field situation by averaging 34 runs.

However, Mushfiq was dismissed for 16 runs off 9 balls and Mahmudullah Riyad quickly took charge again. Myers came in late in the match and scored 46 off 28 balls, but Chittagong set the tone for the win by dismissing both of them.

After charmingly changing the course of the match, Rishad Hossain's cameo of 18 runs from 6 balls finally steered Barisal to victory. Barisal won their second consecutive title by 3 wickets with 3 balls in hand which brought them a memorable moment in history after 2013.

This match on the one hand was where the final excitement of the competition took place, on the other hand the long comeback journey of Chittagong Kings will be symbolized like a dream.
